Well we arrived in the bush to a dark cloudy day yesterday. very bad light for photographs, but we did see Hippo, a herd of 100 buffalo, 2 white rhino, a huge monitor lizard, dwarf mongoose, a hyena that had just had his tail bitten off and 3 lioness and cubs.
This lioness raised 3 cubs, 2 female and a male, which are now over 3 years old. The young male has now been sent off to live on his own, while she has remained with her grown up daughters. She had 2 cubs which are now 6 months old and the one daughter has 2 cubs which are 6 weeks old. They were all together yesterday which was amazing to see. We unfortunately found them when it was almost dark last night but did the best I could. We also could not get too close as they were in a sheltered spot. The lead image is one of the 6 week old cubs who bounced off his Mom after feeding (mom was lying on her back sleeping) to come and look at us.... V2 is one of the 6 month old cubs also looking at us.This morning we found the 3 year old males spoor in the river bed and tracked his spoor for 2 hours and eventually our tracker spotted him 10 metres off the track lying in long grass, he was asleep but lifted his head once to look at us. last 2 Versions are him and his spoor...his foot is the size of a saucer
The sun is shining today, but very windy which the animals don't like. For the birders, we have seen 26 species of bird already, including kingfishers and a malibu stalk on her nest and yellow hornbills to name a few.
Internet is so slow up here so apologies for lack of voting....it took me an hour to load the versions
FOR THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED....there is a Wild life film crew on the reserve who are doing live streaming of the game on the reserve.......google Wild earth TV - Thornybush reserve .. you should pick them up...PS its a lady photographer
