Mosque reflections

By ColleenA
Good morning....
Thank you so much for your votes and comments on yesterdays upload and a big thank you to Netta (Netta123) and Jukka (Kuvaiilija) for their UA's...all much appreciated.
Afetr donning the Abaya and shayla I entered the Mosque and was totally in awe of its beauty. Photos just don't do it justice. I have lots of images and wondered where to logically I have started with the outside.
The Sheik Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque was named after the first President and founder of the UAE, who was buried at the Mosque after his death on 03 November 2004.
The Mosque is the third largest in the World. The two Mosques in Mecca and Medina are bigger.
Area of this Mosque is 22,412 square metres. The four minarets are 107 metres high.
The main dome is the largest in the world and is 87 metres high with a diameter of 32.8 metres. There are a total of 82 domes in the mosque, of traditional Moroccan design.
The courtyard has has a total of 1048 columns, all made of marble with intricately imbedded semi precious stones and gold. 28 different types of marble were used throughout the mosque. The area of reflective pools surrounding the courtyard is 7,874 sq metres.
Construction started in November 1996 and was finally completed in September 2002 at a cost of AED2.1 billion
My only regret is that I didn't spend the day there. So many photographic options and light at different times of the day...however I was ready to feint after 2 and a half hours dressed in black in 49 deg heat. I was ready at 12.30 to head back to the pool at the hotel.
More information and images in two days time (or is it as Melbourne is 12 hours ahead of the UK) as we leave the UAE to fly home this evening...a 14 hour flight
Have a great Monday

From what you have already shown, it's a breathtakingly beautiful building and I look forward to seeing further images, Colleen.
Perhaps V 4 with the columns reflected in the blue water is my favourite composition.

Fabulous place, so peaceful looking. Every version is stunning. As Prabhus said it is after the great architecture of Shah Jehan. A beautiful touch in both these amazing buildings is the marble inlaid with floral designs, absolutely fabulous. Of course for size this wins, it is enormous.
But the Taj Maha is unique and always will be but as far as beauty goes they are definitely at the same level.

What a beautiful set. I love that there are a few people in V1, to give the structure perspective.
Great capture of light and colour.

Magical Colleen - beautiful doesn't quite sum it up and we don't often see images from the Emirates.
It would have difficult capturing V6 in that unforgiving sunshine.
Such wealth and opulence and you've bee there and seen it all.
Safe journey home.

You deserve a medal. I never ever figured out WHY they wear black!!
Especially as I remember from Algeria years ago that the women were all wearing white, veil and all.

Havind said that, your series is fantastic!!
