Our treasured Rhino

By ColleenA
Good afternoon everyone.... finally managed to upload, rather late than never.
Thank you for all your great comments on Scar face and to Harriet for her UA.
Today the last of The Big 5....our treasured Rhino which is under threat of extinction due to the excessive poaching of their horns. Last year 588 Rhino were killed in South Africa, 362 in the Kruger national Park alone....that is one a day, really tragic. To make it worse there is no medicinal value/cure to their horns which is made up of similar stuff to our nails.
The Private game reserves are now either micro chipping the horns, injecting poison into the horns or even sedating the rhino and cutting their horns off. So if they do manage to survive over the years you may never see them with their horns. South Africa have already lost 0ver 350 this year. They have arrested 246 poachers but it does not seem to deter them. I personally would like them to get the death penalty.
I will upload another image of a mother and her calf, she has a huge horn worth millions of dollars as well as a few rhino taking shelter under some trees during a windy afternoon.
Have a great day.....

P.S CarolG has asked me to mention that she was also unable to upload a bug this morning and decided to go and sun herself on the beach for the day GrinGrinGrin

I thoroughly agree, Colleen, they should give these poachers the death penalty - they won't do it again. It's so sad what's happening to these, and all the other beautiful threatened creatures, out there Sad But a what a wonderful set here, each one is worthy of it's own upload Wink

Thanks Tish...yes I wanted to upload V2 as my main image but as its 2 rhino (even numbers are taboo in photography) I thought I would be reminded of the fact, so was safer to load one.GrinGrin

Wonderful images - V2 is outstanding but I have a soft fpot for V6. Hope that the poaching problem is solved one day so that all the magnificient creatures can roam freely and safely with nothing more than a camera shooting them.

Hi Colleen, I guess there are problems with the site, I was trying to up-load different versions of my photo today, but I couldn't, and the problem still, I try recently with not good results at all, also I wanted to see your pic for today, but it was impossible. Any ways lets keep enjoying what we can.
It is sad to read what is happening to the rhinos and in general with all animals. I hope we can still see all them in the natural habitat, and all abuses against nature can be stopped, but I guess I'm dreamingSadSad
Your image is fantastic, I would like to have the opportunity you have to see them in their natural environment, but for now I only can go to the zoo and try to get good pictures of the wild life thereTongueTongue
Best regards,
LuDa
Great set Colleen, I love the one where its scratching itself on the tree trunk..GrinGrin

Another set of a lovely animal. I too think they should get the death penalty as it would probably be the only deterrent that would workSmile
