Terracotta roof tops

By ColleenA
Good morning...
we sailed into Monemvasia on my birthday...I had no expectations as had never heard of it....what a stunning island...refferred t as the Greek Gibraltar....
Monemvasia dates back 1,500 years when fishermen pitched their tents as far back as the 6th century AD. The isolation of this rocky islet offered them safety as it was just off the main coast of Licornia. Over the centuries, the Byzantine Empire exerted its influence over Monemvasia.
I saw so many beautiful places on our trip, but Monemvasia captured my heart, it is so beautiful. It is a walled city with no cars. I have uploaded some images of the island captured from the ship as well as a few on the island. More on another day
Have a nice day

I have never heard of this place but you have for sure put it on the map for me with this beautiful set of images.
It looks to be a stunning spot full of photo opportunities as this set shows, Colleen.
Love the closer views but V 4, 5 and 6 are my favourites, showing as they do how the villages cling to any available space at the foot of the cliffs.

Great set Colleen, what an amazing place, I'd never heard of it either. It reminds me a little of Mdina, the silent walled city on Malta, beautiful ancient narrow streets, very few people around and very relaxed.
Your party from the ship must have doubled the population for a while.

What a discovery - so photogenic - every image is lovely but V2 wins for me
with the lady in the blue hat and the contrasting orange flowers and a Saturday shadow!
I must show these to my friend who hadn't heard of it either and she's pretty hot on geography!
Gorgeous discovery.
