we sailed into Monemvasia on my birthday...I had no expectations as had never heard of it....what a stunning island...refferred t as the Greek Gibraltar....
Monemvasia dates back 1,500 years when fishermen pitched their tents as far back as the 6th century AD. The isolation of this rocky islet offered them safety as it was just off the main coast of Licornia. Over the centuries, the Byzantine Empire exerted its influence over Monemvasia.
I saw so many beautiful places on our trip, but Monemvasia captured my heart, it is so beautiful. It is a walled city with no cars. I have uploaded some images of the island captured from the ship as well as a few on the island. More on another day
