The old Wharf

By ColleenA
We are moored alongside this old wharf in a small country town along the Murray river called Morgan. The town was founded in 1878 and quickly became the busiest inland port with the Paddle steamers and barges moving produce like wool, wheat, timber and other goods up and down stream. The wharf was built and extended in its time using massive red gum and blue gum. It was built in three stages, the first in 1877 and the final stage as late as 1912 combining an overall length of 168 metre. In the prime of its working life a complex of five water hydraulic cranes with associated piping, gearing and drive shafts linked to the steam boiler house and engine house. The rear section carried a railway line. Gangs of up to 50 men worked continuous shifts while 6 trains a day were dispatched to Adelaide. Today it is fenced off from the public. the versions show a close up of the wooden poles as well as some of the old railway carriages and the turn table for railway engines.

A well chosen view point for your opener, Colleen and I do like V3 for it's rust and textures.

Something rather nostalgic about Paddle Steamers and a slower pace of life.
Love V3.
