"Do I look bothered?"

By NDODS
Good day to you all at ePz.

Thank you all so very much for your great comments, wonderful and witty message and much appreciated votes following my 'Still Seed' upload yesterday.

Todays upload was a bit of a play.

I received a new Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens in my Christmas stocking, and Snoops the family cat was my first victim. The shot was hand held, the ISO was bumped up to 3200 in order to crank up the Shutter Speed and prevent a little wobble.

Please give me a critique

Have a wonderful day, for me its Bowls first, then who knows. The weather at the moment is somewhat indifferent to say the least.

Regards as always NathanGrinGrinGrin

If you need to get anything sharp it is the eyes Nathan nevertheless a pleasing portrait.

Great shot Nathan, one with feeling. As far as critique is concerned I personally would have shot at a higher f number, trying f4 through to slightly smaller aperture. The blur does indeed work mind, so it could be a case of trying a few different settings to see what happens. I can however appreciate why you chose said f number as you were hand held with limited light.

Have a cracker of a day.

Cracking shot Nathan, enjoy your new lens Smile

A superb image - one which makes excellent use of the f/1.8 setting as it focuses your attention on the subject immediately.
Those eyes are looking straight through you, Nathan!

Cats...............our old tom wet himself on the way to the vets yesterday............he smelt rather a lot.........the nurses cleaned him up for us...........he was as good as gold with the vet..........and his condition is improving.........GrinGrinGrinGrin

Maybe the image is a bit to closely cropped........the cat looks cramped up, give the cat more room in the eye is slightly out of be more at the cats level........get on all fours and become a cat...........GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

I think if we could see both ears the close crop would work. But on a catty level it's a lovely picture of my favourite creature.

1. It's a lovely cat ( maybe to fat, like my cat)
2. It's a lovely shot ( maybe to ...
3. V1 = V2 ( for me)
4. I'm not good to critique
5. It seems to me, or just the center (head) is clear, the edges are a little blurry?
6. The example chosen is too simple: I wanted to see what you have done with my cat ... which is black
7. Those who have black cats, know what I mean Wink
8. If you like the new toy, why you ask ourselves?

3 Jan 2014 9:39AM

Its very, very difficult to get significant sharpness with such a narrow dof, but that eye is perfectly focused, and the image works because of it. The care you took in picking your focal point paid off well.

I love cats, and I just love the expression Nathan. It really doesn't bother me one jot whether one eye is a bit sharper than the other or a bit of an ear is not in shot. The whole just works wonderfully, the colour version for me, particularly. Smile
Bothered? No. Thoroughly fed up...yes! Surprised he allowed you to take this shot!

I think more of the full head would have paid off Nathan rather than one ear lopped off, but for us cat lovers a great shot mate. And there's nowt wrong with my patio but thanks for the offer Wink it's what we call rustic
