Still striking

By ColleenA
Thank you for the great response to my leaves photography. This is from the same days outing... a dead agapanthus, I thought it still looked striking...like an umbrella stripped of its covering.
A big thank you to Chinga and Sue118 for their UA's. It meant the world to me as these images are my final exam for my course...I get results this evening....I may do well after allGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

Hi Colleen. They booth look fantastic and your so called instructors should be more than happy with your results after such a short time. Your Bg are both well out of focus and nicely done for a beginner.Couple of small points. Again with this type of photography, either its very close or you show the whole plant but as I said yesterday on both images the are just running out of the frame but that is easy to correct so next time just frame your subject in the view finder and take a little time to ensure all of it is in the frame. Without getting technical because I dont think your ready for the Photo Mumbo Jumbo that you have found so rightly confusing. But a little bit darker would improve the color saturation of both images, so just bear that in mind next time. Good luck for tonight and I am sure you will do better than most as you have been improving so well over the past month. Photography is a huge subject and prone to opinion so dont worry about what they say as long as the basics are correct and most importantly , you are happy with your own work. Good luck....John

Some good points made by John above, Colleen, I wish you all the best for good results tonight, I'm sure you will pass with flying colours Smile. Two more great images, showing that a flower doesn't have to be in bloom to have its own appeal. Carol

Have to agree with John - look at the exam as a means to an end and you'll be fine. Keep learning, keep asking for help and comments and you'll keep on improving. But remember, the ultimate criticism comes from you - make sure you like the work you're doing and if that's there, then you keep on shooting and enjoying this wonderful hobby.

For me, V1 is better composed and presented, so that gets my vote. Keep up the effort and good work Colleen.

Firstly good luck with your forthcoming examination, I am confident that you will do well, your work certainly speaks volumes

Secondly two interesting compositions each with the own unique selling points. For me however I feel that image 2 is the more pleasing.

Very good advice about checking whats in the view finder, I tend to leave room around my subject as you can always crop slightly post capture but you can not add in something you miss.

Best of luck with the exam results. - gary
