The Green Godess

By colmar
Good Morning,

Away from the snow but still with trains.

Todays image taken at Ashford International in Kent is of "The Green Godess" Originally used in the 1950's on the Hastings to London Charing Cross route. Recently been back out for Southeastern on the Marsh Link line.

An extraordinary second career
The train clocked up 200,000 miles on railtours and hires to Train Operating Companies (TOCs) around the country in its first 5 years of main-line preservation; that mileage is now approaching the half-million mark

The highlights of its extraordinary second career have included:

•A fourteen-month hire to Anglia Railways TOC, for use on local services between Norwich and Yarmouth/Lowestoft; this ran from July 1998 to September 1999;
•A sell-out railtour nearly 24 hours long, which ran to Devon to witness the total eclipse of the sun on 11 August 1999;
•Several hires to Wales & West TOC for use between Portsmouth & Cardiff, for rugby-match traffic and for the Glastonbury festival;
•Over six weeks’ work on its original route of Hastings to London Charing Cross, for Connex;
•Over four years’ regular (sometimes daily) service for Connex South Central (later Southern) operating “Marsh Link” services between Ashford and Hastings/Eastbourne.

Many thanks for the comment and votes on Oast, and indeed a few other images , all votes and comment are gratefully received and truly appreciated.

We had a lot of problems in our cleaning depot with these points,and the trains ''jumping'' them Colin. It is something taken for granted,but the switching gear is a highly specified, high tech' procedure.Network Rail eventually got the problem fixed.(is it still Network Rail in charge of the lines ?) Good shot,but brings back some scary memories for me !!

Indeed Network Rail still are in charge of both the line and have a great say in toc charges too ! Unfortunately they do not invest as much back the way .... Colin

A very nice image indeed. It is great that the rail companies use preserved stock as the revenue insures it's survival.

Framinl .... I am not a spotter, I do however value the history of our National |Rail network, and have been working with Trains for the past 12 years myself, the social history is the "value" ..... Thanks !

I would agree with you any image that has value for one person is worth saving. I stand by my image here though a definite keeper and worth its value.

Secondly I appreciate constructive critique and indeed the comments above in the main ....... why you choose to deride this image is beyond me. Still it must have some value, you returned !
