This is the kind of scene that many famous painters came to see and record in Holland.

There used to be more windmills here, but all that's left of the ones that disappeared is what you see in the foreground. There used to be over ten thousand of them in the whole country, and now only about 1000 are left.

Comments and mods welcome!

Ooooh, nice rusty girder! BTW, what's that funny-looking stumpy building in the BG? I'd clone that out, if I was you... Smile

Seriously, nice work, Conrad. Just needs a tad more contrast and the job's a good'un...

Even more contrast, eh? Hmmm, I had been using that slider already. But it does indeed look different on this computer. Time I got a Spyder or something like that...

I really like the clarity in this and the detail on the girder, my only niggle is that the diretion of the girder takes my eye to the dead space on the left and bypasses the right of the picture, I don't suppose you've got a shot from the right hand side of the girder have you?

Just had a look - no, I don't. Don't know why, I usually try all different angles and viewpoints. Must have had a reason, but can't remember.

Thanks for your comment, though, I'll keep it in mind for a next visit to this location!

Nice one Conrad, i like the contrast between contemporary girder and traditional architecture.

I can see why you chose to have the shadow lead in from the corner but I'm not convinced this gives the best balance, would be worth playing with some crops off the left side.

Shame that compression seems to have reduced the windmill detail.

It's not that contemporary, actually - it's a leftover from one of the windmills that's no longer there.

It could indeed be worth trying a few different crops, I'll look at that possibility, thanks!
