One of the aspects of my country that I'm quite proud of, is the way we've made a part of the earth inhatibable that many wouldn't have regarded as being usable for human beings at all. After all, two thirds of the country is below sea level.
What it takes to make and keep an area like that inhabitable, is something that becomes very clear in our province of Zeeland, where the greater part of our sea defences is located. I won't go into detail, if you want to read more about you can click this link: Delta Works .
When I recently visited this area, I was once again very impressed with what has been done here, what's still being done, and the ambitious plans for the future.
And the photo below doesn't even begin to give you a good idea of the scale, enormity and ingenious nature of our highly advanced sea defences, but I thought it was a nice shot anyway. (Colour version here .)
