Portrait Textures

I haven't had time to write more about my photo model holiday in Bulgaria up to now, but it's time to tell you a little more. I'm jumping over a few days and going to the end of the shooting days, the last day, Friday. We went to what turned out to be my favourite shooting location, a derelict cotta...

More from Bulgaria

This time just some atmospheric grab shots with my iPhone, I'm keeping more model photos until later. All pictures edited with Snapseed. Gypsy outside Sliven Derelict place in Seradlevo Old garden gate in Seradlevo Cabin outside Jerevna One of many picturesque str...

Normally any messages from unknown sources starting with 'You're a winner!' or similar titles get deleted by me. It's amazing how many lotteries I've won without ever entering, or how many competitions I've never competed in but won anyway. Ahem! But I now know to be careful about what I throw aw...

... it was great! I won a model shooting holiday, courtesy of Photo Model Holidays from Bulgaria, including luxury accommodation in the Bulgarian hills, and most of all: including one on one model shooting - no group shooting, no waiting to take my turn, but completely individual and exclusive acces...

It's Snowing!

Normally I'd grab my camera and rush to the nearest picturesque spot. 'Normally'? <Sigh.> Yes. Not this time? Nope. I have to wait for the plumbers to finish. And by the looks of things they're not going to be finished for hours. And the predicted afternoon temperature is 3 degrees... ...

Shooting People

Oh dear, that sounds all wrong. I did mean 'Photographing People', of course. This is not about terrorist activities, it's a photography blog post... I've always been a bit insecure about shooting ... oh, here I go again ... photographing people I don't personally know, whether it be as street ph...

Photography trends may not be the best way to answer a question like this, but there are just a few things that have struck me, and they are all to do with selfies. I can't say too much since I've taken a few myself, but the trend I've noticed is worse than just taking a few: many people are comp...

Snapseeded Alley

I've never photographed as many alleyways as during my last holiday. It must be a Mediterranean thing. :-) It's a bit of a challenge - even when the weather is good, the light in alleys is invariably very tricky for photography, mainly due to all the shadows. So I found it difficult to get it rig...

Sights? What sights?

Spotted in Cadiz: two cruise passengers just off the ship, more interested in their phones than in the local sights - and there were quite a few sights to see. Sign of the times?

Shot from the hip

I like street photography, but I haven't done a lot of it - I suppose I'm just not very courageous, I don't like people noticing that I'm pointing a lens at them. So the solution is to do it covertly. In this case, after having looked at this Croatian musician, I pretended to be interested in so...

Traveling Light

Having sold all of my heavy photo kit a few years ago due to worsening back problems, and having replaced it with lighter MFT kit, the natural thing to do was to also sell off my two rather heavy tripods, a Manfrotto, and one of the bigger Velbon models. But that left me without, and although I'v...

Decisions, decisions...

Several years ago I found an infrared-conversion Canon Powershot G2 on eBay. I've had a lot of fun using it - it's a lot easier than putting your camera on a tripod, shutting out almost all of the light with an infrared filter, hoping for the best, and then converting the images in Photoshop, ho...

I've reached the point where I wish that I could load an old-fashioned battery in my camera - the kind you bought in the shop, put in, used for a year, and then replaced. I'm so frustrated by now, it's not nice. Since last year I've had some problems charging the battery for my Olympus Om-D E-M5....

Stunningly Beautiful

People who've known me since my youth, will remember that I was a shy boy. Not exactly the bold type, if you know what I mean. And although I've developed since then, in some ways I still am that shy little boy. And I'm painfully aware of that again today. I really like people photography, but I ...

The No Squirrel Photo Blog Post

This is terrible! Another blog post without a photo! My own fault this time, though. I suppose I should always assume there will be photo opportunities when I go out. Admitted, I often use my iPhone to cover eventualities, but that doesn't always work. Like yesterday. I went out for a short wa...
