Shooting People

Oh dear, that sounds all wrong. I did mean 'Photographing People', of course. This is not about terrorist activities, it's a photography blog post...

I've always been a bit insecure about shooting ... oh, here I go again ... photographing people I don't personally know, whether it be as street photography, or in modeling situations. Even when I took a short studio photography course, I felt this way. It did give me a few images I was reasonably happy with, but so far, I've not been able to get myself to organise model shoots myself. Too shy, I suppose.

But now the initiative has been taken out of my hands, because I've won a photo model holiday of a whole week! That should keep me busy photographing people, and I don't even have to arrange it myself, is that good or what?! And it's in a country I might not have visited otherwise, Bulgaria, so that's exciting as well.

I'm still getting used to the idea, I've only known about it since yesterday afternoon, but it is slowly sinking in, and I'm getting excited already! I'll let you know how it goes, when the time is there...

I expect I will! And I also expect to be taking more photos than I have in the last three years combined! (Hmm. Better check my memory cards and spare battery.)

Relax, first of all, and enjoy it. I've always felt comfortable with street photography, photographing people active and doing things. Direct one to one, looking someone in the eye and directing them rather than observing and responding, that scared me witless.
I got over it by working with a small group, where everyone took it in turns to sit for the others. It's about personal rapport as much as photography. Being aware of the model as a person. It sounds like a fabulous opportunity.

Congratulations, its great to be pushed into new areas sometimes. Best of Luck, I hope you get a new photographic avenue to explore.
