FishEye & Art 5: Ceiling (Re-post)

By conrad
Strange, maybe, to re-post an image that was awarded an HC, but I couldnt stop thinking that maybe there were still ways to improve the shot. After all, an HC means it's nice but not perfect, right?!

The black frame in the original upload was something I liked myself, but I wondered if for some it might have been a little o.t.t. There was, after all, quite a lot of black. So heres a version without, and with a few other tweaks.

Now, question is, of course: Which version do you prefer, and why?

I'd really appreciate your comments!
Mods welcome, too.

Thanks for looking!

P.S. Ignore the typo in the camera description...

I missed the other one, so I'm glad you've reposted. Great abstract.

Not sure which one I like, but in the previous one, the frame did contribute to the shape and geometry. This one is just nicely framed....if you know what I mean.

Thanks, Cheryl - but which one do you prefer, and why???

Nice one Conrad - this is excellent. I see it got you another HC! I love both, but I think I prefer the other one at a push, due to the way you presented it, and the angle etc. I think I also preferred the black border. Tough call though Smile

Ah, thanks, Mel - that's what I wanted to know! I think I prefer the first one myself, too, but it was the "not perfect" thought that I couldn't shake which made me do a re-post. Thanks for giving your detailed opinion!

prefer this one if I had to choose....for some reason the lines seem more defined and the whole image has a much brighter cleaner appearance a much stronger image just my opinion though, like it.

Interesting, Elizabeth, how opinions always differ. Well, at least that justifies me in my reasons for uploading this version. Thanks!

Love the geometry and starkness in this Conrad. Maybe you could try for more of a diagonal composition?

i like this one better- it just works better without the heavy black. you have some excellent work in your portfolio, it will happen. you often find what you are seeking when you stop looking for it. :o)

For me this one, seems cleaner, probably just the use of the black to offset the other. Have you tried the offset in white?

Having seen both I think I prefer this one as the black in the previous version seemed a touch too heavy whereas the border on this seems more part of the picture. Well done on 2 HCs from one shot.

Cheryl - I'll have a look at making the black white and see what that looks like. That's one I hadn't thought of yet. Thanks!

I'd rather not compare just say I really like it - the fisheye effect give it an unusual quality

As you know I think this is brilliant and it didn't really need modding, but you know how much I enjoy twiddling about with your pics!! Hope you like it Smile

By the way, I noticed that when I saved the larger pic to my computer it was a huge file - around 3000 pixels along the length..

Thanks, Ivana.

Dave - That's okay, comparing is not obligatory! Thanks for your comment.

Mel - I have no idea how a pic that I uploaded with a longest width of 1000 pix suddenly got 3000. That's more a question for Will, probably. Oh well, just think we got three times our e2 money's worth on this pic, then. Wink
It looks like there's something to be said for using black and white, and a wider white border. Although it does seem a bit more bland in b&w, but maybe that's just me. But thanks for the mod, it's nice to see how people play with images!

I prefer this one even though the other is still impressive, this one is much clearer and lighter, great abstract shot.

27 Oct 2005 12:17PM
Thanks, Pete and Janine - it seems the light draws people more to this version than to the darker one. I think I prefer the other one myself, but not because of the black - because it tends to deceive the eye.
Thanks for your comments!
