Ogwens Jewel

By Niknut
Sticking with the Ogwen Valley theme.....this is from the lower flanks of Pen yr Olwen, with the jewel of the valley, Tryfan, directly opposite, with the Glyder range
off to the RH side, & Lyn Ogwen visible above the wall. I've climbed Tryfan 3 times over the years, a wonderful experience......though a friend of mine climbed
it & got caught in a thunderstorm on the top, & with nowhere to shelter he, & two other climbers were struck by lightning, suffering bad burns, but lived to tell the
tale afterwards......scary stuff !!

Many thanks to everyone for the terrific response to 'Ogwen Valley' !!!.....& special thanks to Anne, Kathryn, Nigel, & Paul for their UA's, & to Jeremy for the GEA !!
you've all done me proud !!......many, many thanks !!.Grin

I've read just today, in a local paper that Tryfan has been voted top spot for great mountain climbs in the UK, along with others in the LD, & Scotland !!

Congratulation son the well deserved GEA Keith.
Another beautiful landscape today which is making me smile with the style and the gate!
Dunno what the Scots will have to say about Tryfan beating the Munros!
It sure looks good anyway and the words of warning are scary since even the most experienced climber could be affected.

A wonderful scene here Keith - that story about your friends just shows how dangerous these mountains can be. Very scary, as you say. A super composition showing off the magnificence of this area.

Superb shot, although I've been up Pen yr Ole Wen (pre-camera time) I've not really seen Tryfan properly from that angle and it took me a little time to sort it out in my mind. Like your good self I have been up Tryfan a number of times but it was the long sweep of the cwm to the start of Bristly Ridge that really confused me. Now I can see it plainly, it has given a new perspective of Tryfan and the Glyders.

Thanks for putting that shot up. I really enjoyed viewing it

Absolutely stunning composition.

Marvellous to see Tryfan from across the valley, you don't quite see the dragons back from here as you from above the tourist centre but it's magnificent Wales for sure.

Grand work Keith

I had a friend who got caught up Stob Dearg in Glencoe and he gave his jacket to another man as they sat the night out on the top.
