Thanks to you both and for the nail Gary!
I'm not being a dissenting voice, on what must be a very good photo given all the comments above, but could someone please explain it to me.
Maybe my 15 years of Accounting has killed all creativity, but I struggle to understand it. Before I offend anyone, I do see this as a reflection on me, and not any criticism whatsoever of Kath's work. I am just interested in what people consider makes a good photo.
Hiya earthvisions and thanks for taking the time to comment. I'm very new to digital photography and although I had a Zenit-e for many years I never looked beyond taking the 'usual' photographs. Having been given a digital camera as a present and then introduced to this site, I found I probably gained the confidence to try taking images I would have seen or drawn but not photographed.
The image above is derived from my personal love of nature and being a 'career' pebble hunter. It was not meant to make a statement or indeed expected to create the interest it has. On reflection it seems to have touched in others what the most simple of images often touches in me which can't be quantified.
I'm not certain what makes a good photo for others but I know when I'm moved, touched or reached by an image of any type. All in the eye of the beholder?
I'm off to look at your images now and wish you well.
eathvisions--on reading your above comment -i think it is highly unlikely that you have ever watched an episode of MONTY PYTHONS FLYING CIRCUS--in wich Michael Palin plays the role of an accountant--you should try it--then maybe it would explain your above comment
Congratulation Kath, with your AWARD, and afcourse your Birthday.
This Image showed, you got your things in Balance. xxx
Can't believe I've never clicked on this, Kath, as I've looked at it often enough!
thats the best still life I've seen for ages!
great image like the form and exposure stop on
This will win an award anywhere in the world!
Completely love this photo - it is fantastic. Love the composition and all the shadow you have used.
I'd be really interested to see more of your work, the reason being I am developing a new business called Art Evolution which will support up and coming regional (NE) artists and photographers. The business will provide a link between the creative community and commercial organisations providing an additional stream of income for yourself (if you are interested in earning from your work).
Art Evolution will both sell and rent art and would very much be interested to hear from you to gain your opinions with reference to the business idea and to see if we could market your work (given further investigation).
I love the lighting/shadows on this...did you use natural window light?...That small red pebble stands out and makes me feel that if it were moved the whole structure would topple, very clever...Stunning...A well deserved EC, well done....Love your other work too, I don't seem to have the imagination for abstract, so I find your work fascinating...you may just have inspired me to try...click...Sue
Thanks everyone and yes Sue, natural window light and black sugar paper backdrop, propped up against a balsamic vinegar bottle and empty cava bottle! Ad hoc studio!
Worth the effort, sorry to take so long to notice!!
Brilliantly arranged. Red stone on right makes image complete somehow.
Love the simplicity of the shot. It works really well. Congrats on the award. I'm hoping I can eventually produce a photo that it good enough for an award someday.
Sarah from Manchester.
Thanks Ella, Ken and Sarah.
