Thank you all and Geoff, cogitate...years since I've heard that but it is the most brilliant word to describe what she was doing!

She must be fit as you have to climb up through the woods to get to the monument and the views from the top!

Looks a great spot to sit and take in that magnificent view of the countryside 😃 And how kind of that woman and her dog to come along and provide you with extra foreground interest! 👍

Thank you all for the comments and clicks and to Mike, Mike and Brian for their much appreciated User Awards.

The bench is often taken by the time we wander up there. She must have had an oxygen cylinder!

The moors in the distance are above Rochdale which is the built up area beyond the fields swing right and you're looking towards W. Yorkshire.
180 degrees to the left and out of shot, you look over towards Manchester and beyond over the Cheshire Plain and on a clear day can see the beginning of the Welsh mountains.

Clarity of air a few decades ago would not have been as good as mill chimneys would have obliterated the view! The fly over bridge carries the M62.

The area of woodland the shot is taken from is Tandle Hills, Royton and was gifted to the people of Oldham for their recreation.

Thank you Richard and John. It is in the North West which sometimes gets a bad press, industrial and run down areas... I'd like to know where there is anywhere on God's good earth that doesn't have the affluent and not so affluent living side by side. The mills, most now long gone, were the producers that brought in the revenue, same for other industrial areas, the Midlands, W. Yoks and the North East. Doesn't mean that amongst the industry there aren't beautiful areas too. Oops...very protective of Lancashire, I did not agree with becoming Greater Manchester!

Have a good day both.
