Evening Visit

By cooky
A sudden whim and half hour drive was all it took to visit Singing Ringing Tree. It is one of Pennine Lancashire's Panopticons.
A panopticon is a structure, space or device which provides a panoramic view.

This structure is at Crown Point above Burnley and last night it was singing as the wind passed through the tubing. Behind it are the wind turbines over at Cliviger and then turn 180 degrees to the left to see Burnley spread out below you and in the distance the Three Peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Ingleborough and Great Whernside.

In the versions you can see the whole picture from moor, to industrial town with Pendle Hill to the left and then North Yorkshire and it's peaks beyond. I can but think of the hopes and dreams of all those millworkers from Burnley who would trudge up here to catch a glimpse of Jerusalem amongst those dark satanic mills.

Have a lovely day all.

Great series of images, takes me back to my childhood in Yorkshire. Whenever I visit relatives there I feel like I'm coming home even though I haven't lived there for many years.

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments and Alan and Vince for the awards. Vince if you are local it is well worth a visit and if you are taking shots, the views are great. We had our granddaughter and two Border Terriers with us and I only had my compact camera with me. It was a walk and photography can sometimes spoil a good walk! WinkWinkWink

Actually quite astonished this little camera pulled in the distant peaks as well as it has! Go Panasonic!

Take care all, raining today so the Three Peaks will be but a blur!

Great set Kath, love the lead which is a wow when viewed large. Just goes to show how well these little compacts perform, and they are an absolute boon when you don't want to be trudging around with a large camera. Recently, I've used my small Sony more than my Canon and the main reason for this..........I can just stuff it in my pocket, lol!!!!

Have a good day.

Thank you so much Ollie, Bert and Leo and for the award too Leo, that is lovely of you. Yes, Angela and Leo had the little Pano a while now and it's handy in case of emergency photos! Didn't think it would have pulled in the image it did, bless it!

Thanks again everyone.

Thank you Fred, it is a very unusual structure and you can stand away from it and listen or put your ear against the tubing.

Was there myself last year Kath. Nice capture..

Thank you everyone for all your time in viewing, commenting and clicking on Singing Ringing Tree. I have just had a really late meal and gone around catching up before finding you all here! Have had a lovely day, Todmorden and then home and then 'persuaded' to drive to Watergrove Reservoir with dogs, husband and granddaughter. It's a hard life...WinkWinkWink

I think I may confine my Canon to barracks and go walk about with my little compact Panasonic - yes they do have a Leica lens Tony and probably about 10 years old now easily.

Thank you all again. I will message everyone.

No wonder the road works take so long when the pipe layers are messing about like this, Kath. Wink
