Northern Powerhouse

By cooky
A lot talked about the help for a Northern Powerhouse but I'll believe when I see it.

Not everyone's type of image but a capture from a couple of weeks ago up above Norden at Greenbooth Reservoir.

By way of explanation:
The pylons sweep across the moors here and there are also wind turbines delivering power down to Manchester in the distance.
Greenbooth's series of reservoirs does the same with its water, one of many reservoirs in the South Pennines catchment area. Numerous farms and hamlets were flooded to create enough reservoirs to provide water for the growing population. The chimney in the foreground is preserved and the remaining part of a textile mill that once stood there. The tractor, driven by a woman, was mowing and from the hill farm up at the top of the moor and there are sheep, lots of them.

Potted history lesson of what kept and keeps England's industrial base ticking, resilience of character, willingness to sacrifice and change for the greater good. It is a harsh landscape but to me it's home and I love it.

No I don't work for the Northern Tourism Board! WinkWinkWink

It's Monday and it's raining, often does up North!

Great capture love the framing of the pylons, and that little tractor chugging along. It may be described as a harsh landscape but I love it too, It always reminds me of my Yorkshire home, which I left many years ago and still feels like coming home whenever I go back.

Great framing of this image Kath, good narrative also. We all live on a beautiful island I think, and the one I live on is a very small part of it.
keep em coming.

Hello and thank you Wallace! Covid is an excuse for everything but no worries, Boris is building a very fast trainline to nowhere! Think we will align with our Scottish and Welsh friends!

Raining here and I've built an ark if you want to paddle upstream - I have Wensleydale cheese!

An excellent composition and very well presented, Kath.
World Cup next year and a great team to face it. Winning that would be far better than the tacky Euro's.

Thank you Joe, Sandy, Bill, Tony and John and John for your award too.

Go John! I feel the same, we saw some really great teamwork, sportsmanship and unselfish play. What a way to cut their teeth ready for the big one! Only people that let us down are those egits spouting racist slurs and insults. They couldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding let alone kick a ball.

Thank you Tony BlushBlush

Take care all.

It makes a good abstract, Kath, and frames the chimney and the tractor well, their tininess (is there such a word?) really enhances the pylon's size 😃👍

I have to admit to having a liking for industrial landscapes. You can keep your green, rolling hills and fluffy skies or dawns/sunsets over various ridges, and I'll have the grittiness of a b&w scene without a hint of colour or "niceness". Not a hedge in sight, nor a stile...
I'll shut up now, I've probably annoyed enough landscape togs...Tongue

GrinGrin Ivor! You had to venture North to find a bride! We'll accept you into our gang! 😅😂My uncle married my Auntie who came from Northfleet. They lived in Kent and so many happy memories of Kent and the SE Coast. Thank you for your visit.
