Too often the strong, silent man is silent only because he does not know what to say, and is reputed strong only because he has remained silent. Winston Churchill

By NDODS
An image which I captured last year whilst spending a most enlightening and awe inspiring afternoon at Chartwell the home of Winston Churchill. If you have been you will appreciate its beauty, charm and historical value. If you have not you are missing out....

Thank you all for you continued support and caring words over the last week, I am now falling over and hobbling around the Bungalow like a new born Calf. But like the calf I will I am sure grow from strength to strength.

Regards Nathan GrinGrinGrin

Nathen I had a GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinwhen I read what you said about walking around like a New born calf.
I knew exactly what you meant as we've had a few New born calf this last week and that how they go in the field,
But every day I look out of the window and look at them they are getting better at it and getting much stronger every day,so keep going but DO take care.
This image is so beautiful Nathen I would love to be able to sit on that empty chair and have a little sleep .Smile

Hi Nathan, Reflected on this image for a while thinking of something deep & meaningful to write, this is the nuts, that'll do. Keep on recovering & get out & do some more of Kent. I lived there many years ago & you bring back memories for me. Best regards, Si

Yes, Nathan, drink lots of milk and heal quickly-- just be sure it is pasteurized milk, not from a barn in pennsylvania that specializes in unpasteurized milk ( re: some local news)

This is a wonderful image, interesting to see the home of a very great man!

One of your best: a strong composition, perfect weather (how often can we say that in the UK?), and a title that is a quote from the Orator himself...

Easy to imagine him sitting there, contemplating - a painting to be started, or a book to be written - or maybe a black dog to be fought?

I find it heartening that even such a lionhearted warrior suffered from depression. So often misunderstood and mistreated, it can pull down the strongest and the best. Those fortunate enough never to have been touched by it can be so flip... "Pull yourself together" is as helpful as the loan of a chocolate teapot. one wise psychiatrist described it as a "disease of the will" - invisible and powerful.

And I can see an appreciation of all of this in both the picture and the title.
