Ok... my second attempt at backgrounding a portrait shot, and lighting it in paintshop pro. Still getting used to it and trying to teach myself.

This is my girlfriends labrador who is owned by the guide dog society... she is half trained but used as breeding stock, which means we get puppies every year who then go off to be trained to be real guide dogs.

Photo captured on a canal walk Sunday at Aynho, Oxfordshire. She sat still for me because she's lovely.

Cut round her after cropping an adjusting contrast slightly, flood filled background and 2 'sunbursts' behind the head.

Well I hate to be the only pickled onion in the fruit salad but your cutting out of the dog is woeful - I can still see what appears to be foliage from the original background. Without seeing the original shot it's difficult to recommend a particular montage technique other than advocating a little more time and care.
I should also mention the burnt out areas on the dog's head, ears and shoulders. Direct strong sunlight can make exposure calculations difficult - next time try putting the dog under a tree and expose for the dog while it's in the shade.
Nice looking dog.

Lovely dog, but I think you were a bit sharp on the cut out now, her ears have a few odd straight bits. She's also quite yellow under her chin - is she normally like that, or was that the lighting/treatment you used?

Katy - she is always like that.

I agree that the cutout is poor and generally I dont like and may have deleted it if it hadnt nthced up so many votes! lol

I did do 2 mods - but they were deleted and the option removed after they agreed to my request and then spotted afterwards that I wasnt an e2 member! lol and wasnt allowed the feature.

May upload one of te mods in the future if there is nothing else to upload.

The dogs face is nice but the cutting out or outside of the dogs face doesnt look to good i wonder why you needed to crop out a lovely canal background perhaps worth trying to shoot using a your widest f/stop for a nice blurry background if the scene wasn't good . My advice would be to try and get it right in the camera and spend less time at the computer, had a look through your portfolio and you seem to be tackling all sorts of subjects and making a fair job of most of them, perhaps try moving some of your work off centre a bit maybe ?, I'm sure there will be advice on epz on the( Rule of thirds ) that will help you and good luck and thanks for your comment and click.
