  • Kingfisher

    Thanks all.

Funny thing Richard, I actually moved position to get the variation in the background, but mainly in horizontal format. On this shot it did not bother me that it was only a small bit left in frame as it was where the bird was looking. But I can see it from both angles. There is another fainter patch of green to the left of the dominant one, but probably not strong enough to even out the tones.

  • Testing

I was testing the exif upload but selected the all but camera option.

Obviously not taken on a D70 but that is what it defaulted to with just Nikon in the field and now I don't seem to be able to edit it on the upload. I was just curious as by default my save for web strips the data.

Never really sure that it helps anyone that much and actually could be misleading in some circumstances.

  • Er, an osprey

    Thanks Lee

Thanks Ronnie for your kind comments on all of the recent uploads. Each one is appreciated even if not expressed individually by me each time.

  • Ah go on then

    Thanks all.

    Thanks Jude for the UA.

I like this image, but kind of had the feeling it might struggle because there is water in front of the eye which gives an impression of unsharpness because of the haze it is causing. Interesting to see how others have viewed it.

  • Another Osprey Panorama

    Thanks all.

The panoramas are quite hard to view and appreciate the full impact I think on most screens. Perhaps 2000px on the longest side does not make for the best viewing experience and something more akin to 1400x700 would be better. I can't even see the full image on my 1900x1200 display!

Definitely think I may get a couple printed like this at some point. A little bit different.

  • Osprey - Panorama

    Thanks all.

    Thanks Ronnie for the UA.

You know I typed I must do this again next year in the blurb - so you know what I just committed to another 3 days of ospreys and 4 days of sea eagles in 2013

Sea eagles are a subject I have promised myself I would return to at some point as they are also truly spectacular birds.

  • Barnack No 9

Now I bet that surprised you Adrian Grin Wink

However, I think you have worked hard over the last couple of years to try improve in a couple of specialist areas of photography and this is a great example of your work with butterflies.

Most jealous as I would love a shot like this - though of course might help if I actually got out and tried to take one Grin

    Thanks Alan for the GEA.

    Thanks Pete for the EC.

    All appreciated.

Wasn't sure how this one would go down as the eyelid is partially closed which makes the eye area look slightly strange. Have a few more to upload over the next few weeks.

Get out like I do? It's called a summer holiday Grin Just happen to have had two very close together this year, but nothing else planned until 2013!

  • Osprey and Fish

    Thanks all.

Personally Ian I prefer movement in the wing tips as otherwise the bird look like a cut out. You'll notice that very few of my inflight shots don't have movement in the wings.

  • Another Osprey

The site is a fishery. The trout are there mainly for the anglers. In the last couple of years they have built a pond specifically for the osprey and photographers.

It is working of sorts, but not guaranteed. On one morning there were 14 dives with 7 fish taken, but on another there were just 2 dives with 1 fish taken and that was not until about 9:15 having been in the hide since 4:30.

If you want to visit look up Rothiemurchus fishery and photography.

The location is the same as where Lee Fisher and I took shots a couple of years back, but the pool is now much smaller meaning that if it comes in you have a much better chance.

  • Bottlenose Dolphin

    Thanks all.

Have some in landscape format - the point of this being in portrait was just that the sea blended in to the sky and that was too good a background to waste.

Will post some of the others later.

Thanks Pete for the EC and thanks Ronnie for the UA.

Pretty much is only one service station on that road Wink Well plus a couple of smaller un-manned ones, so long as your credit card is good and not stopped in case of fraud Smile

Have a few days of photography planned this week. So may have some more shots to upload soon.

I was having a good time, but now back in UK and preparing to go to work tomorrow at 5:30am Sad

Thanks all, pretty special bird this. Have some in flight shots as well, certainly not the most elegant bird when coming in to land!

Yeah the thumbnail is a bit of a killer on this one. The light on the fulmar is what makes the shot for me. Have a few variations in front of various parts of the waterfall. Very impressive. 62metres high apparently.

Would have cropped it but was sticking with the 3x2 format. Tried cloning it out, but that was a disaster!

5x4 format probably the way to go Wink
