Golden Light

Found a whole directory of unprocessed images from the meet at the Mid-Wales Falconry Centre just prior to Xmas.

Thought this one is rather special - which translated means I like it a lot.

Thanks everyone.

Glad to see that others like this one as well. That lighting is something a bit special.

I decided to use the village as the background on a number of shots rather than the field or trees. Think it gives an environment feel to the image.

Just fabulous, Cheryl, but I've had a go at cloning out the wire.

There's mods available Jim you can do it for yourself Wink

I like the barbed wire - might have a look at it without later.

Pretty good Mod Jim, what about the grasses next? Does give a softer feel. Maybe when I get some time I'll work on the full-size image and post as a comparison.

Thanks Simon, Kris and Paul.

Thanks, Cheryl, though I think the grasses are essential. Won't be able to follow this up as I'm off to the sun in an hour Wink

(Hope they don't ask to weigh my camera backpack which I'm taking as hand luggage - it's got ALL my gear in it, barring my tripod which is in the case! Weighs a ton!)

Funny thing is I'd swap yesterdays EC for this one any day. Hopefully he'll be published soon - think Magic deserves a bit of publicity.

Thanks again to all, even those naughty anonymous clickers - never catch me doing that.

3 Jan 2006 4:31AM continue to impress. This is classic. I like Jim's mod but prefer the barbed wire as it does, to me, suggest it's wild, rather than from a centre.

Oh dear Pete's gonna be in trouble now Wink or should that be ;-(

I notice Frank is back, I was wondering where you'd been Mr Reid, no posts since December the 4th and not turning up at the MWFC. Hope all is OK.

Thanks all, and especially Pete. Think I'd better retire for the rest of the year.

Thanks Helen and Maddie.

I'm retiring until the end of the week. I did have a few more really good images from the Xmas period to post, but I think I should give everyone a rest. So off to do some work instead.

Sorry Andrew, got a whole data card full, well almost, not all are as good as this one. Even the thumbnail on Nikon View screamed out to be opened large.

It was funny cos I knew I'd taken some with the village as background, but I hadn't seen them since getting home. Turned out I'd accidentally saved them to my D70 folder ;O

I can see why you consider this one "rather special"
It really is a top-class shot in my opinion and I'm not really into captive wildlife shots. As Pete said, the barbed wire does suggest a wild setting as does the fields and the backdrop and this really makes the shot work. On top of that, the framing is so precise with the owl looking into the frame and the fence perfectly horizontal.
...nearly forgot to mention the gorgeous light!!!
Congrats, well deserved
