Not just another

By csurry
bird on a stick.

[Alternative Title: What part of no don't you understand?]

Someone was asking for something other than just a small bird on perch image, hopefully this suffices.

Reason you don't see more, well it's not that easy to do: If you're framed up to get the chaffinch it's not easy to adjust in the couple of seconds available to reframe and get the complete action. Also DOF causes issues as there is much more that needs to be in focus to work and you'll be concentrating on the eye of the main bird. So a bit of luck is required and some good light!

This is one of the best images I have seen of two different birds together. The colour, detail and light is awesome. The clarity is superb. Well done Cheryl

Nice work Cheryl. As well as the general appeal of the two birds it's a beautifully processed image.

What an excellent capture, Cheryl. To see two different birds so sharply defined in the one shot is exceptional - this is really excellent work. Very well done.

Thanks all.

Snowing heavily here at the moment, so maybe some good conditions for the weekend.

Unfortunately I have to go out and meet a colleague in a little while as I left something in the office. Wouldn't be my choice to go out right now! Good to photograph, less good to drive in!

Thanks all.

Thanks for the award Richard, most appreciated.

Drive was no fun at all on the way back. Thought I'd stick to main roads but in a blizzard it was hard to maintain a sense of location on the road. Pavement was white, road was white, no one coming the other way and you found yourself drifting from almost colliding with the pavement to the middle of the road. Maybe the smaller roads were being used more because the bypass has never been that quiet. Was glad to get home.
