When I saw this tree at first it was just the same as any tree in the forest. My eye was then drawn to the lichen on the tree and branches. So I took the shot. Afterwards I thought that's not a photograph for submission onto EPZ. Then my thoughts turned to where we are as a nation. We seem to , well we have, lost all sense of deep rootedness. The coronavirus pandemic has exposed this so dramatically. No one seems to have a handle on how to cope with this situation. Well maybe, well it is for sure, that we have failed to turn to the one who is sovereign above all, Almighty God, and ask Him for His help. A largely forgotten fact is that in the Second World War the Germans were ready to send their vast military resources by boat to invade the UK. The top brass were waiting for the orders to invade from Berlin. King George the 6th issued a proclamation asking for the nation to go to the churches and pray for deliverance. When the German commanders heard that radio broadcast they thought the UK was for the taking! Then in a few short hours afterwards those German commanders were brought orders from Berlin personally signed by Hitler instructing them to change tack and move their forces to invade Russia instead. Now it is time for our national leaders to issue a proclamation to open up the churches so our nation can en-mass come in pray for deliverance from this terrible affliction we are going through. The tree is certainly firmly rooted to the ground and will take a lot to shift it. A bit like our present troubles, stubborn and taking a lot to eradicate it. What is needed, divine intervention?

A wonderful image and metaphor, David...I hear your sentiments....and as a lifetime atheist, I think it will take more than prayer to help us out of this pandemic.
