Venice from the Grand Canal

By sramsey
The photograph was taken from a ship on the Grand Canal just at the point of passing this iconic view which seems to create a pleasing composition

What is so special about Venice Shelia is both the fantastic buildings and the wonderful light you can get there. The weather was not kind to you at all and has served up some pretty dull light, so inevitably the buildings look a bit on the dark side. In my mod I have tried to brighten up the scene by using the enhance>lighting>brightness tool. The white clouds have burned out but I have kept them to give the feeling of brighter weather.

I also straightened up the shot using the edit>transform>skew tool as the buildings are leaning over to the right. It's not easy taking a shot from a moving ship.

A good guideline to bear in mind when you are composing your shot is not to have anything very prominent in the middle. Here the tower would have looked better off to one side, about a third of the way from the edge of the pic.

I am sure the shot brings back lots of lovely memories of this fantastic city. It's a pity the conditions were not kinder to you as far as the photography is concerned.

Best wishes
