Wink Cheers for that vote of confidence - have done pretty well for myself over the last 8yrs - balance of work has changed from Weddings to Portraits. I think that says something in it's self. Also It's not just the photographs but how you handle the clients - ie business management and marketing......

Haven't checked the link but I'm sure I've seen it.

    Philosophy at the mo...

    Try something

    did it work?

If yes - do more of it
if no - do something else

    My exact thoughts too!! Wink

So glad I've caused a laugh - I needed it too. Wink

Thought through and sifted so many options in my head over the last couple of years. Teaching I did look into - have done quite a bit of student placements and talks with schools - but thank god I'm not the only one crying into my boots. Everything has gone flat! Just trying to hold in there with something that's fun.
We're looking into Vintage and ladies make-overs.

(Just had another couple ring and cancel their Wedding c/o splitting up Sad since i started this chat)

    Hahahaha, silly me!! Keith!!

Sorry - I was just going to remove this post - but I'll leave it as it's had answers Wink
I'll be a millionaire by Friday Wink I know about all the firms - been there.......

Has anyone heard of a company called 'School Supplies Services' ? Apparently operate in Private and Self Funding Schools. Not an area I really want to go into but I'm so fed up with 'Weekenders' and ' I've got a camera's' that I just thought it might be something different.( Can't stop laughing as I'm writing this ).
I do actually have a very nice little business going at present with the help of a make-up artist and we have new ventures that are proving to be great fun.

Hi - just a quick question to hopefully those in the know.

Is school photography potentially lucrative area? Or should I stay well clear?? Wink

I've been trading as a Wedding and Portrait Photographer ( BIPP and SWPP registered and Award winning) for the last 8 yrs and am still doing so. Unfortunately owing to the number of 'new kids on the block' my number of Weddings has suffered - Portraits up tho!!
    Many thanks!

Thanks for those guys! - I'll give them a look. Did get a small 6x4" for the event I worked at but would be interested in one that can do larger. Grin

    Hi Linda,

Thank you for that.Smile I was wondering if there was a dye sub printer that printed 6x8. Apparently there was one - Kodak 6800 but no longer available. Just wondered if anyone knew of anything else at that size. The organisers were interested in 8x10 but I knew I'd not manage that without either lugging a quality printer to the venue ( and expensive) or doing 6x4" prints as samples and 8x10 in the post - but it just seems like a faff!
It's a Royal Wedding Charity do - so sort of my line of work! Ha - bit of fun!

I'm looking for a suitable printer for an event. Is there a 6x8 printer that is of reasonable quality out there? I've been pulling my hair out looking at reviews etc but even more confused now. If not any recommendations for a professional quality 6x4 printer?

It's not the sort of thing I usually do - but have been asked to do it for charity. Usually use a professional lab but wanted to offer on site prints.
    Many thanks for any help.

I found this thread and just wanted to hop on. I'm using lightroom 3 and am just looking into using tethered shooting in the studio. Using with my D200, when plugging it in with the usb I'm finding that lightroom doesn't recognise the camera altho the mac does. Any thoughts or help appreciated. Many thanks.

The barge trip has been rearranged to Saturday 16th 5pm-8pm. (Circumstances beyond my control - annoyingly!!).
I've Dm'd those that showed interest.
Places still available - let me know if your interested.

If this restricts the numbers then I'll see if it can be rearranged for later in the Autumn.

Just had a look at Blurb.com and am impressed so far - like the custom page options. Why can't they add an opacity option tho?!
    Thanks again!

I was introduced to Tastephotobooks by an ephotozine tog and have enjoyed producing books with this company.
In uploading one today I'm finding that the site has gone weird - just an advertising banner come up with Google ads. Does any one else use this company - had any problems? Has the company gone bust? Sad

Can any one suggest a similar company with software that I can use that offers a range of opacity of the background, and ability to make templates of pages to use in the future?
    Many thanks for any suggestions,

Just to update this meet - We're meeting at the Portland Museum, Ashton-Under-Lyne, Manchester, this Sunday 18th July for a 5pm trip ( meet 4.45pm).
The trip will be approximately a 3hr trip - along the Peak Forest Canal. The staff are offering refreshments although you are welcome to bring a picnic. I'll try to directly contact everyone that showed interest but if you get here first it'd be good to hear from you.

Places still available so any one interested welcome - even if it's just for the trip and not to take photographs - (A small donation to the volunteer crew would be appreciated.)

I'm intending to run a small competition - suitable for any ability.Grin

Can anyone recommend a good slideshow producing software suitable for a Mac? I've recently moved over from PC to Mac and am looking into slideshow options. idvd really doesn't produce the quality of images I want after being burnt to DVD. I've tried iMovies but apart from a 'quicktime' playing show I can't again get a reasonable quality image on a DVD playing on TV. Any suggestions?

I'm an old face (not literally!) but not been on here much recently. I'm trying to get more in with touch other local photographers. I've got the opportunity to use a canal boat (for 3hrs) on the Ashton Canal/ Peak Forest Canal (very pretty and interesting) and was wondering if anyone was interested in a meet. The canal boat is picked up from the Portland Museum in Ashton, another little find with a lovely restaurant attached perhaps for afterwards. All the Barge owners require is a small donation so a potentially fun afternoon or evening out. Here's a a virtual tour of the canal. If your interested I'd like to hear from you!
