Winter

By brownsilent
Winter
by Walter de la Mare

Clouded with snow
The cold winds blow,
And shrill on leafless bough
The robin with its burning breast
Alone sings now.

The rayless sun,
Day's journey done,
Sheds its last ebbing light
On fields in leagues of beauty spread
Unearthly white.

Thick draws the dark,
And spark by spark,
The frost-fires kindle, and soon
Over that sea of frozen foam
Floats the white moon.

Hope you're all fine and enjoy the winter.
Johanna

Beautiful poetry to accompany a fine winter image Johanna, Good Morning to you my friend. It's cold and frosty here again the fog of yesterday is just hanging a little in the trees, but nothing like yesterday morning.

Did you write the poetry Johanna it is beautiful ? A real winter white-out .

Regarding Switzerland if you have some-one in charge of proceedings like Michael Upward was, it made the whole 11 days much cheaper and he also managed a concession on the trains , a wonderful holiday xx

Simply beautiful! Reminds me a little of a favourite watercolour painting we own, work of a Borders artist at the turn of the last century. He too could sum out winter with just a field of snow and a tree. Magical!
