  • D200 custom curves for InfraRed

You can create a custom curve in NX2 (althought I can't seem to get it to work on my D200) - I believe that this only a curve, rather than an entire profile. e.g it only...

  • Nikon 105mm VR - Tubes or Converter?

Thanks, it does make sense. I had wondered about that actually - 105mm + 68mm or so of extension tube shouldn't equal 2:1, but it does. I guess that's an unexpected bonus...

  • Posted on: Panasonic Lumix GX7 Full Review

I'd also be interested to know how good the stabilisation is compared to the Olympus on body stabilisation - the review says you can shoot at 1/20s rather than 1/40s which suggests only 1 stop benefit. I'd have thought / hoped it'd be abit more than that given that most new lenses claim 4 stops of benefit?

  • Posted on: Panasonic Lumix GX7 Full Review

I'd like to know how the GX7 view finder compares in terms of size to a full frame DSLR. I compared the view finder on an O-MD to my D700 and found the former tiny in comparison. I kept my viewfinderless e-pl3 instead of changing it for the OM-D.

I'm very happy with using the tilting LCD's most of the time. I ask because if I wouldn't bother using the Viewfinder much because it was so small compared to what I normally use on a full frame DSLR then the new e-p5 becomes just as attractive.

    Thanks for the great review.

  • Posted on: Extension Tubes for Macro Photography

mosesmegiddo - you comment confidently about how the reviewer's lens/extension tube combination will not produce acceptable results, yet it sounds like you've never actually used this combination. I've been using this exact combination of extension tube/Nikon 105mm VR for a couple of years now. All of my insect images were taken using it. The combination works perfectly with no loss of image quality. There are disadvantages, which are mentioned in the review - namely it is cumbersome. With all the tubes on you can vary the magnification from about 2:1 to 1:2, just by adjusting the focus. The distance from the front of the lens to the subject is about 200mm which is fine for insects etc.

There are many advantages to telecoverters, which are well described in numerous forums. It sounds like this is your approach.

Unfortunatly, Your comments about this lens combination are completely wrong. I've posted this so
that readers of the review don't accept your comments as fact .

  • Posted on: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G Review

Thanks, i've got the older 1.4 AF-D too and agree its fairly soft wide open. A long way off how sharp my 35mm 1.8 is wide open.

I'd probably buy the newer one (1.4G AF-S) if it is alot better wide open.

    Thanks, interesting review.

I'd be interested to know if Gary (or anyone else) thinks the image quality on this lens is better than on the older 1.4 AF-D, particularly wide open.

Outstanding portfolio. I saw a few of your images earlier in the year before I had the "favorites" facility and only came across your portfolio again after todays EC. The images are all the more interesting with the details and text you provide. Excellent work.
