You did well to capture this through the mesh and bars, but without these, the image wouldn't have so much impact. I notice you have placed the monkey perfectly within the central frame of the mesh with light on the monkey only and a black background. Then, with the use of black-and-white, you have produced what, in my opinion, is an excellent image that has a message and a strong emotional pull, accentuated by the sad look on its face. An image that evokes strong emotions, to my mind, is a good one.
