All Time Greats

By DATMAN
Apologies to Mudge who clicked on my Restaurant Flamenco image which I've deleted in favour of this. I didn't realise I'd got it.
We have Giacomo Agostini #10 (Yamaha), Barry Sheene #3 (Suzuki) and Phil Read #1 (MV Agusta) during what I think would be Race of the Champions or Race of the Aces at Mallory Park sometime around 1970 all in the one picture.

Hi Den,
It's great to see these three together. I might have even been there the day this was taken!
I'm pretty sure it's not 1970 though.
Read took over Ago's ride at MV and Ago went to Yamaha, which is what they're riding here. That was at the beginning of 1974. I don't think Barry Sheene was riding for Suzuki much earlier than that either. Also Sheene's using No.3 and has yet to adopt No.7. Can't recall which year he did that though.
Jester.

On reflection Jester I tend to agree with you. The early 70s are all a bit of a blur in my memory. I'll see if I can look up when Sheeney changed to #7. I think that maybe earlier than this shot I saw Mike The Bike's return on a Ducati duelling with John Cooper on a 3 cylinder Beezer. Them was the days.
Thanks so much for your comment.

Same here Den.
I think that if you can remember them, then you weren't doing it right!

Found it Den,
Sheeney was signed by Suzuki in 1973 and he drew race number 7 at Daytona in 1974 which he then made his own.
All of which indicates that your image must have been taken in 1974 but earlier in the year than Daytona!
Any earlier than 1974 and Ago would have been on the MV.
Jester.

Yeah, that all makes sense Jester. I have Sheeney's book somewhere but haven't had time to look it out. However, one of the later negs from the day shows BS doing a lap of honour (with the obligatory chicks of course) standing in the back of an 'M' reg BMW. So that dates 1974 as you so rightly say.
Thanks for ALL your interest in this and I hope it's brought some pleasant recollections for you.
Den
PS I have a shot of Ago exiting the hairpin. Although the bike's carrying #10 he has #1 on the back of his leathers.
