In 1983 Williams F1 developed a 6 wheel racing car with smaller rear wheels to reduce drag compared to the more conventional wide (slick shod) wheels. An added advantage was that in wet conditions, the leading axle could have wet tyres and the rear axle having slicks hence increasing grip in wet conditions. However, before the car ever got to a grid the regulations were changed limiting cars to only 4 wheels and also banning 4 wheel drive.
