A change of direction today. During a short shopping trip to buy some veg I got my eye onto bulbs of garlic on display and decided to buy a couple, one for cooking, t'other for some pics.
After making the "Pea Soup" (two hours) and cleaning the mess, out came the dirty old piece of A2 white card placed onto the kitchen bench. I was going to use my 40D and 50mm macro lens but had second thoughts and broke out the SX50, no messing about, easy to handle. May not have the quality of a DSLR but good enough if using textures during post processing.
This A2 card is past it's prime by a long way, gave it one more go with the idea of hiding the stains with a couple of textures....
..... Gave the image an adjustment with auto tone........
.... which didn't half give it a boost
When deciding what to do about the stains, I sat back wondering if it was worth the effort. Made a coffee and when looking again at the image, the idea of duplicating the layer and adding a lot of Gaussian blur to the top image, adding a layer mask, then revealing the bulb underneath came to mind. It's the first time I've tried this method......
...... What a difference.
Final adjustments dodging the midtones, burning the shadows and a little curves adjustment gave it some clout. Took two minutes
I wonder what the morn holds ............?
