After the chores and a coffee I got it into my head to tour the parish of Woodhorn. Put a flask up and off I went.......
First port of call was Woodhorn Colliery, now a museum......
The old man worked here from 1938 up until it's closure in 1981.
It was then off along the cycle track to Woodhorn Village. stopped for five just before the village. Thirty five years of smoking tells, even after giving up fifteen years ago.
After feeling rejuvenated it was off to the church for a look around the graveyard. The church has been closed since the seventies. Now overgrown and looking neglected.
After a while there it was off to the windmill atop a hill. Built in the mid nineteenth century it stopped milling during the nineteen twenties.
.
Stopped at the junction in the village and had a coffee or two. The ex farmhouse in the background is the residence of ex Durham County and England cricketer, Steve Harmison, I couldn't see him.... he must have been out.
