Salt of the Earth

By DaveMead
Let's drink to the hard working people
Let's drink of the lowly of birth
Raise your glass to the good and the evil
Let's drink to the salt of the earth

Say a prayer for the common foot soldier
Spare a thought for his back breaking work
Spare a part for his wife and his children
Who burn the fires and who still till the earth

Raise your glass to the hard working people
Let's drink to the uncounted heads
Let's think of the wavering millions
Who need leaders but get gamblers instead

Hi Folks
This is an image taken on Sunday evening from Potter's Nab on Farndale Moor, looking South West (ish). I have done some Curve Adjustments and sharpened it but other than that it is as taken. The stone in the foreground is decorated with a herring bone pattern of the sort seen in all the buildings in this area. This work was normally done by the old folks who could no longer earn a living from farming back in the days before pensions and social security. I'm not sure many of us would be able to work stone like this up on the moor on a wet and windy day. I think this stone was left as it appears to be broken, being about half the size of the stones that make up our house and buildings. Anyway, it put me in mind of one of my favourite Rolling Stones songs, 'The Salt of the Earth'.
I really am going to make an effort to go through the gallery on here this evening. Smile
Have a good one.
Dave

Wonderful light and colour captured beautifully by you here Dave. My great grandfather and perhaps even earlier in our family were quarry owners and got out stone similar to the one that has been so lovingly carved on by someone....Phil...p.s. only a week now before I start coming over to Whitby . Will be in touch if that is o.k
