Scaling Sunset

By DaveMead
Hi Folks,
Thanks for all the c & c's on 'Winter's Toll', much appreciated as always.
Tonight's image is a case of right time, wrong place. Taken last Thursday whilst out with Scotty (stephenscott) at Scaling Dam on the Whitby to Guisborough road, we stopped here because the sky was starting to look interesting and we were struggling to find anywhere better. Having wandered around for a while, we realised that a large expanse of water does a not an interesting composition make, unless there is either an interesting foreground or background and Scaling provides you with neither. However, on the upside, we met up with a very nice chap called Dave Cappleman who has now joined this site as 'theCaptain'. Another good thing, I guess, is the amount of detail I got from the edge of the reservoir by using a 0.6 ND Grad on the sky and an inverted 0.3 on the water with a narrow gap between them. I hope that comes across on here. Obviously, the 10 stopper was at work as well. Thanks for dropping by and have a great evening.

well as you say there is not much in the way of interest but the colour of the sky and the reflection work well, love the use of the 10 stopper which has added some movement in the sky and really smooth water.

Linda ( it is a bit faster tonight)

hope it lastsTongue

Some very clever and technical photography here Dave. 3 filters at once. Works well especially the 10 stopper on the sky . Been there once bird watching and know that there's not a lot of subject matter so you 've done exceptionally well to get a very interesting image. The lone rock works well in just the right place also ...Phil

Hi, Dave. I was thinking about our meeting and checked to see you PF - wondering how you were doing! You have made a nice job from our visit that day and your shot proves far better and more interesting than anything I came up with that day! The sky is fabulous and your composition does work really well! Very nicely done!
