Scampston Hall Gardens

By DaveMead
Hi Folks,

Thanks for all the kind comments and clicks on my recent uploads, I really appreciate you taking the time.

I have had a very busy couple of weeks with family coming to stay and Farndale's annual Agricultural Show. The show was a great success with the weather staying fine and the folks turning up in their thousands; like last year I had a stall selling framed prints of some of my images as well as entering the photographic classes. I won 4 of the classes and a trophy for my picture of a local farmer on his old 'grey fergie' (tractor) in the 'Farndale at Work & Play' class.

Once the show was out of the way, we had some days out with the family including a trip to Scampston Hall near Malton. Although the weather wasn't great, the cloud did break up for a while whilst we were walking around the gardens and I couldn't resist getting the Big Stopper out for this shot. Rather than wait for me, I told the rest of the family to carry on with the walk, which took them down the left hand side of the lake, as long as they kept moving. This they did and I was very pleased to find no trace of them whatsoever on the image, nor some other people who wandered into shot on the right hand side towards the end of the 60 second exposure. Now that's what I call Big Stopper magic!

I hope everyone had a great weekend and thanks for dropping by.

Dave

A beautifully composed shot, and such a tranquil scene and setting: the reflection of the large pine really makes the shot. I have no experience of this big stopper filter and therefore cannot remark on what it has done for the shot in this case. However, having said that, it is a cracking shot.

Stunning reflections and a beautiful range of colour and tones. A bit "cooler" in colour than your usual images but no less fantastic - well captured and well done on your success at the show. Excellent stuff as usual
