The Tiger Roars!

By davenewt
Tiger Woods slaps a driver off the tee during one of his early morning practice rounds for The Open Championship in Liverpool, July 2006.

Had to treat this one as the colour of the crowd, bright blue sky and green (it was only Tuesday) grass was just too overpowering. Have tried to keep some 'warmth' in the background, but wanted to focus on the man himself.

Snapped the shutter of my G5 as he started his downswing. This was my one and only attempt at capturing his swing with a still camera. For his second shot from this tee, I pulled out the video camera. Must get that sequence down on paper next.

If you're a golfer, maybe you shouldn't try to copy this position through impact. Quite apart from the possibility that your knees and wrists will shatter, your torso get ripped from your legs at the hips, and your head end up pointing the wrong way, this tee shot went way left. No wonder he stuck to his irons on his way to winning this year!

Thanks for the comments guys, appreciated! It's just a shame this is the only opportunity I had to capture the Tiger, and the only photo I managed to get of him in action. Worked out okay in the end though!

Great idea. I live just 5 or 6 miles from this course (which by the way is in Hoylake, Wirral and is called the Royal Liverpool although it is not actually in Liverpool! confusing I know). The only thing I am confused about is you can see the shadow of his club but not his club probably due to the fast shutter speed. Well executed all the same, love the additional colour - makes him really stand out from the crowd which is important.

Hey Andrew, thanks... his club is along the line of the people's feet... the head of the club probably blending in with the people who are wearing black trousers...! I thought I'd better make him stand out a bit more - he doesn't need the help in real life, but in 2D even Tiger can use a little assistance from Photoshop Smile
