Moonlit Problem

By Davesumner
This moonlit shot of a sailing ship was taken as is from Moreton Island in Moreton Bay off Brisbane, Australia. I was on holiday and walking back from the bar with my wife when i noticed the sailing ship had anchored off the island. What made me rush up to our room to get my camera was the moonlit sky reflecting on the ocean right by the ship.

The problem that I had was that I had travelled light because we had flown to Brisbane and i had only packed my monopod. So I had to bury it in the sand to get anything like a steady shot. Then there was the issue of the boat moving on the ocean a being really blurred whilst I took the shot on a longish exposure. I eventually, after taking a lot of images at differing settings, settled on this one and even though it isn't exactly what I wanted, it is still a reasonable image. I wanted to capture the moon behind the clouds so it didn't overexpose but still shining on the water, i wanted the sea smooth and the ship correctly exposed and sharp.

By the way, I lost the rubber foot off the monopod whilst moving it around and although I dug it out and refitted it, i had to strip down the monopod and remove around 2kg of sand that had gone up the tubes SmileSmileSmile

Hope you enjoy the image and thanks for looking.
