I was trying to create a moody image with dramatic use of colour.

What I really would like to know is I have been looking at other landscapes where the fore ground seems to tave much more punc and detail. I am not sure if this is due to in camera or manipulation afterward to sharpen certain areas of theimage. Any advice on this would be great

Hi Hannah, this is a great shot of a landscape. You've got a nice lead in with the river/stream starting at the bottom L/H corner and a good variety of colour. A lot of the time the "punch, detail & sharpening" is done post shoot. I've uploaded a mod in which i used photomatix to add a little tonemapping and CS3 for the border/frame for presentation. All in all tho, a great first upload.

If you want more punch you might have to get down a bit more. For example get those rocks in the water as more of a foreground feature. You might have to get you feet wet but your shots would definitely have more impact.

Thanks for the advice, I better get a pair of wellies and start wading around. I wish I had got lower now but worth keeping in mind for the future.

A nice place & a good try at capturing.1stly the picture is already too small, try not to make it smaller, there is good detail in the sky,the river is taking the eye nicely from foreground to background, try coming to the same spot in the morning or evening & feel the difference.Have posted a modification.
