Last Night's Sunset

By DebbieBMP
This was taken yesterday evening on the way home to Essex from a visit to our Daughter in Wiltshire.

It had been dull grey and overcast all day and then as we were driving towards Woburn Mother Nature threw this amazing sunset up. It took ages for my hubby to find a suitable place to stop for me to attempt a capture and the light was almost going hence the really dark forground.

Was I glad I had my camera with me - this shot is as it came off camera with no tweaks whatsoever and when viewed on my PC I was astounded at the way the shots had come out.

ISO 400 with a fairly slow shutter speed can't remember what the speed was now as tried several different speeds.

Who needs HDR when Mother Nature gives us such amazing beauty

I love HDR work but have not tried it myself yet Smile

Hi all thanks for the comments - we had a dull grey day all day and then as the sun set we were rewarded with this most amazing sunset I just had to get my husband to stop and let me capture such a wonderful sight Smile

V1 has all the depth, mystery and subtlety that HDR usually kills for me. So well done for resisting that temptation. HDR has its uses, but not here.
I find V2 less satisfying, not for the cable but for the hard black stripe on the left. The framing of branches in V1 is more graceful.

V1 - unspoilt by power lines - otherwise very little in it (so I assume not a part of the experiemnt - or if it is a very subtle part?)

Best wishes

Love them both, such warm colour. V1 for me, as the cable in v2 is just slightly distracting. Love the cloud formation in both too.
