I must admit, I nearly bypassed this shot due to the location, which is not really doing the image any favours. However, your model is posing well, good eye contact and the exposure and sharpness is good. I have done a drastic mod. I wasn't keen on the barbed wire fence but didn't really have time to clone that out. Personally, I thought black and white suited well.
A good looking model though, definitely potential there. I agree with Keith too about using a larger aperture as it would've blurred out the background a bit and made it less conspicuous. Hope you don't mind all these suggestions..!

Definately don't mind any suggestions - everyone has something valuable to add.
Michael and I took around 100 shots and we chose to upload this one because of the location.
We wanted something a bit different - but it's good to get feedback to see if people think it works or not.
I'm going to carry on with this series of shots over the next couple of days.
Thanks for the mod. Mel...off to look now!

Very interesting to get all the different opinions.
I posted this a couple of days ago, and got advice re using ripped jeans and industrial backgrounds which we've tried here. Just shows that you can't suit all of the people......
The one who matters - Michael, the model loves the shots and is buying a Graphibook, so I'm very pleased with the outcome

this is well cool mum!!!!!

Oh, so this is the reason I haven't seen you all week?
The penny drops!
I agree that the barbed wire shouldn't be going through his head (despite being jealous) but I quite like the Pylon in-shot. And someone needs to tell the kids round here that ripped jeans, pastel colours, labels and the music from the 80's are all out of fashion, because they seem to think they are coming back in!

Hi Debbie
I think the pic is a good reflection of modern youth culture, doesn't matter where they are they are always caught with their feet up! Just joshing. Nice pic, but he should lay off the sun bed at his age.
I'll take a look at work and see if i can find any of the fashion reference books we use that might help you with ideas.

Before I read all the comments my thoughts were that I'd have cropped it round the model and the rocks to give it a 'rougher' look that went better with the torn jeans. Mel has modified it the way I would have too had I done it myself.
Model needs to do something with that hair (though that's just a personal thought), but I've had a couple with similar hairstyles that I photographed but didn't like.
