Kolkata # 8 A 250year-old Banyan tree...

The major tourist attraction of the Kolkata(Calcutta) Botanical garden is a 250year-old Banyan tree, Known as Ficus Benghalensis and belonging to the family Moraceae,the tree is a native of India. It was the widest tree in the world in terms of the area of the canopy.The tree is about 98feet high and has a circumference nearly1300feet-a rare sight for the tourists!

Yes I saw the tree when I was in Kolkata......all the trunks were supposed to be the aerial roots sent out by the original tree which has since died.

Aamazing capture, Debu. i have seen banyan/ ficus trees in Florida.....where a single tree forms a forest.
