The Drowned Tree

By derekhansen
Anyone who bought Outdoor Photographer magazine this month may recognize this tree from the locations section. Elmley Nature Reserve is on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent only about half an hour from my home. It was the tree that caught my eye. Ever since seeing Charlie Waites well known image of submerged tree trunks in Northern France I have always wanted to get a shot like this.
One point the article didn't mention is that Elmley is only open between 8.00am and 5.00pm in the winter and 8.00am and sunset in the summer.

Derek , been waiting ages for you to get out !!Smile....its beautifully dark and love the relationship between the fg grasses and the tree branches and together with that thick heavy sky the lighter band defines the branches perfectly....very nice SmileSmile

Very very dark, Derek, assuming you meant it that way. Very moody and the grasses/twigs shapes looks so good.

Dark and moody Derek. Like the lighter foreground twigs and grasses, give the f/g a nice lift.

Thank you everyone with an especially big thank you to Jeremy and Mark for their awards.

Although this version looks ok on my laptop it does look a little dark overall on my phone, I have uploaded a variant with a slight lift in mid tone and some more contrast as an alternative,
Oh and I have also straightened it up as I spotted it was on the wonk.
