Many thanks for your comments on the photos of this HíMong man up-loaded yesterday. Iím very chuffed.
A very special THANK YOU to David (DeSilver) for his Use Award.
Hospitality is very important in the culture of the hill tribe people in Vietnam. While I was walking in a village a few miles from Yen Minh, this man invited me and my Vietnamese friend to come in his house. He offered us a small cup of hot water because thatís all he had. After the drink, the hospitality ritual is to smoke the ďdieu cayĒ (water pipe).
He only put a pinch of tobacco (thuc lao) in the pipe and smoked it in one long inhalation. Kept it in his lungs for a short time and exhaled it slowly, enjoying the moment.
He had a good laugh when I showed him the series of photos with the smoke coming out of his nostrils. His grand children could not stop laughing either. The visit of this village will remain in my memory for a long time.
Hoping you like this second series of photos,
