Cathedral

By DicksPics
'Cathedral' is one of over 20 sculptures in The Sculpture Trail in the Forest of Dean, which we visited today with our older daughter Rachel and husband, Neil.
It consists of one large window 15 feet high by 10 feet across and is a beautiful example of stained glass.
The window was placed in the forest in order to connect two separate places – the ‘forest’ and the ‘cathedral’ – and the way they are both affected by natural light.
V2 is included to put V1 into context.
The Forest of Dean has a fascinating industrial history and is well worth exploring if you are in the Gloucestershire or The Wye Valley area.
Many appreciative thanks for all views, votes and comments on my 'Contre Jour at the 18th' upload!Smile
Have a good Sunday.
Richard

What a huge and beautiful panel of modern stained glass.
And how very original to site it out there, V 2 showing it in context of it's surroundings.
And what a privilege just to be able to see it.

Excellent take, Richard. The idea behind it is great but was not discernible in V1. V2 clarifies it and V1 then makes sense. A great work of the artist and you've done your best to show it.

You have just made my jaw drop Richard, a couple of paracetamols and I'll be fine. I am often told of the beauties of the Forest of Dean, having never visited it personally, but I didn't know it was a sculpture park as well.

This must look fantastically different every time you see it, depending on where the sun is at any given time and V2 definitely does put it into context. Thank you.

Wonderful shots of such a beautiful creation: with the sheep watching the woodman.

"Oh woodman, spare that tree,
Touch not a single bough,
In youth it sheltered me,
And I'll protect it now."

... something my Grandfather taught me as a child!

I couldn't resist commenting on this one, Richard, because I well remember my first encounter with it....wow! I just showed your pictures to my partner and he remembers it well.
In Hillier's Art in the Garden this year, there was one very much like it and I was wondering if it's by the same artist.

PS: I had to have a look on google, and found that it was made by Kevin Atherton, not the same artist.
