Firstly, many thanks for all votes and awards for my '27th July 1974' upload and, especially, for your good wishes and lovely comments!SmileSmile
They really are appreciated and very kind of you!SmileSmile

Today's upload is a little different(for me) and is a b/w experiment - the image was taken on one of our lockdown walks.

There are so many members who are so good at b/w manipulation, an area I would like to pursue and develop in the future. Any hints and tips would be gratefully received!Smile

I hope your week is going well.

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with this mono shot Richard, it's a very suitable subject and looks to be converted well.
Some of my earlier blogs were on black and white, and some of the recent images in the Critique Gallery are mono so you could start there.

A tip I always try to remember is that a good black & white should always have some true black and some true white( without over exposing).
Cant say I manage it always though Wink
Lovely detail Richard!

Looks to be well locked up in this lockdown Richard! 😃 Lovely tones and textures in that old woodwork - and there's nowt wrong with the B&W work here, I'd be happy if this were mine, like it a lot 👍

Well captured, and I do like how the chain has worn away the wood, showing how long they have been fitted.
Converting to monochrome is fairly easy in Photoshop, Richard assuming you save in RAW format. You open the Camera Raw Filter and there is button to convert it to monochrome. You may have to increase the black or lighten shadows but usually the initial conversion is O'K. Mind you, your image looks alright as it is.

So which of the versions (Lead and mod's) is my preference, Richard?
Like all locks, it's hard to pick?

Looks pretty good to me. The best advice is to please your own eye. Trying please everyone else is not can't please all the people all of the time....etc.
Just enjoy the journey.Smile

Excellent capture, Richard GrinGrin
Looks like the chain has been around forever but the padlock is very new.
B/W can be very rewarding and sometimes disappointing but stick with it and experiment.
Good luck and stay safe

The truth is Fefe is absolutely correct, a true black and a true white with all the grey tones in between is the way to go, this is as good exposed mono as you will get its only the subject matter and composition, if you are happy its good enough
