Old Bowlish House

By DiegoDesigns
During the recent Heritage Open Days, we visited a wonderful property on the outskirts of Shepton Mallet in Somerset, called Old Bowlish House.

The man who owns the property guided a group of us around his amazing house and delivered the most interesting commentary I've ever heard from a guide. I imagine he was so delighted with the number of people that had turned up to see his house and that was clear from his enthusiasm for detail.

Old Bowlish House was originally a clothiers house built around 1620 and was refronted in about 1735. The most amazing part of the tour was that the house is now used as a contemporary art gallery and I thought this shot was the best interior I'd got on the day.

We really enjoyed rummaging around various properties on that weekend and look forward to the event again next year. Thanks for looking and for the suport on the Oxford images.

What a beautiful room and a beautiful take by you Dave! Wonderful detail and taken from the perfect viewpoint in my opinion! It's always extra special when you have an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide isn't it.. I could of listened all day to the one we had at Bletchley Park!

Beautiful room, perfectly taken Dave. Agree with you about the Heritage Weekend. We were up in Northumberland and got to look round Belford House. It's been converted into private flats but one of the residents took the two of us round and he was so knowledgeable about its history.
