The Rock of Cashel

By DiegoDesigns
Legend associates the Rock of Cashel with St. Patrick, but the name comes from Caiseal, which actually means "stone fort," and the hill was originally the residence of the kings of Munster. Apparently, excavations have revealed some evidence of burials and church buildings from the 9th or 10th century, but it was in the early 12th century that the Rock began to be developed into a major Christian centre.

This impressive complex has a character of its own and is one of the most remarkable collections of Celtic art and medieval architecture to be found anywhere in Europe. Sadly whilst I was there, the building was shrouded in scaffolding and much of the interior was undergoing restoration. The weather was very changeable and outside the gravestones looked particularly eerie, so with a little tweaking, this is my take on this famous place.

Great image, interesting write-up and very appropriate for the feast day of All Souls, when we remember those gone before us. Sylvia

You've certainly achieved the result you were looking for Dave, dark and slightly macabre.
