Britannia

By DilysT
P&O cruise ship Britannia docked in Ålesund, Norway last week. A trip up on the Vernacular gave this wonderful view at the top. Practically all of the old wooden town of Ålesund was destroyed by an enormous devastating fire in 1904. The population had to leave their homes in the middle of the night with only a few minute's notice. Only one person died in the fire, but more than 10,000 people were left homeless. The town was later rebuilt in a beautiful Art Nouveau style which was popular at the time, drawing inspiration from countries all over Europe.

Thanks for looking
