There, where their copies are today, from 421 BC to about two decades ago, the original Caryatids adorned the area, like that of the image.
Today, the Caryatids are located in the Acropolis Museum in Athens, except one, which was taken by Lord Elgin, who is in the British Museum. They are 6 statues in total.

Can't remember the story of Lord Elgin - I know he took the marbles too but not sure of the rights and wrongs!
